5th Grade Camp
Environmental Education Program

This program features three-day environmental education tent camps for fifth grade students in low income schools in San Diego and Imperial Counties. Working with the San Diego County Office of Outdoor Education, the Anza-Borrego Institute offers a curriculum that meets fifth grade standards for both science and social studies while providing children “windows” to the rich natural and cultural resources of this parkland. The program includes activities that;
(1) promote an awareness of desert ecosystems;
(2) introduce students to basic research methods; and
(3) provide exposure to professionals as role models for natural and cultural resource careers.
